Portretten voor Haags Gemeentearchief & Stichting Avrasya te zien in Atrium Den Haag 11.XI.24

From June 10th until August 26, the portraits of 12 Hague-Turkish women with interviews about personal migration stories from their own experiences or from mothers, sisters or in-laws: all from the perspective of women are on display in the Atrium. I am proud to have been able to contribute to this project with portraits taken at their homes to give these personal stories a face.

Nevin, she came to the Netherlands in 1966, after started working various jobs she worked for 26 years as a cleaner at the House of Parliament, being the first Turkish employee there. I made these portraits with great pleasure, and with Nevin, I immediately felt a connection from the moment I stepped through her door. ♥️♥️♥️

A beautiful project for Haags Gemeentearchief (The Hague city archive) & Stichting Avrasya.

60 years of Turkish migration

In 2024, it will be 60 years since the agreements on the Turkish migration of guest workers were signed, and 2024 is the year of 100 years of friendship between the Netherlands and Turkey. Throughout the city, various initiatives can be found that focus on this history. Through conversations with Fatma Aktas of the Avrasya Foundation, it has emerged that she misses the female perspective on these events during such moments. An exhibition in the Atrium of the city hall is a perfect place to highlight the female perspective on this part of Turkish migration..

NL - NRC 9 juni 2021 - tekst Sarah Ouwerkerk

Link: https://bit.ly/3ct5Ki2

ENG - publication in national newspaper NRC 9 juni 2021 text written by Sarah Ouwerkerk.

In the NRC newspaper I am taking you on an adventure today, June 9th 2021. With the 'Drakeblood' story. Which I've been working on for about 2 years now, together with Beesel and the Draaksteken Foundation. Very exciting, to be published while still working on it, but even more exciting because I also have to build up a bit of responsibility for 2500 people of the village of Beesel.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sarah Ouwerkerk has written a very nice piece that describes the story and how the community knows it. Thanks @sarahkartono and @nrcnl for trusting and publishing an ongoing project! Link: https://bit.ly/3ct5Ki2
